John Furgurson

Passionate. Well-rounded. Visionary.
John’s been called an anomaly. A creative, right-brainer with a penchant for business, an intense desire to learn and the habit of reinventing himself on a regular basis.

His career has followed a path that few copywriters have ever seen. He cut his teeth writing direct response ads and catalog copy for Norm Thompson Outfitters, where sales were the only litmus test of success.

From there, it was into the fray of the advertising agency world. A wild array of clients. An award-winning portfolio. Lots of bad bosses. And precious little TV work.

Onward, into the video industry where he wrote corporate scripts and helped produce long-format videos for big clients like HP, Pacific Power and Tektronix. He even wrote a few successful infomercials.

In all, John has spent 25 years planning, managing and executing all sorts of marketing programs for all sorts of businesses. He’s been involved in several start-ups, including one non-profit and one called AdWords. (Which he sold to Google for way too little money.)

John also knows his way around the market research business, so all his work is grounded in solid insight and thorough strategic thinking. He’s a quick study and a prolific writer, with contributions to Gourmet Magazine, Links and Architectural Digest. He’s the founder of the Brand Insight Blog and a regular contributor to BrandManagement.com. He’s even published a book on one of his favorite subjects: Golf.
